Lots are primarily ethanol-preserved invertebrate specimens, especially Crustacea, with smaller numbers of vertebrates and soft-bodied organisms (e.g., Gastropoda, Annelida, Nematoda, Cnidaria) often only identified at a coarse taxonomic level. In addition to ethanol preserved specimens (mostly 95%), the collection includes slide-mounted specimens and some ethanol preserved specimens in freezers at 0°C. Lots include collections from 1965 through the present, from springs, seeps, caves, wells, spring runs, rivers (especially the hyporheic zone) and ciénegas. The Edwards Aquifer Research and Data Center is an aquifer ecology research center, water-quality analysis lab, and education program within the College of Science and Engineering at Texas State University, San Marcos Texas. The Aquifer Biodiversity Collection was established to provide a repository for the collections of current and previous Edwards Aquifer Research and Data Center staff and collaborators, thereby organizing groundwater community data linked to well-curated physical specimens. The collection and associated data are organized and shared to encourage and facilitate taxonomic, ecologic, evolutionary, and conservation research of groundwater organisms in Texas and beyond. Data digitization was supported in-part through a grant from Texas Parks and Wildlife Department under 2023 State Wildlife Grant F22AF03325-00.Research was supported by the US Army Corps of Engineers Engineer Research and Development Center under Grant W81EWF-20-SOI-0018 Collections data are currently uploaded to GBIF as a .csv file through the VertNet IPT.
