The data in this occurrence resource has been published as a Darwin Core Archive (DwC-A), which is a standardized format for sharing biodiversity data as a set of one or more data tables. The core data table contains 7,449 records.
1 extension data tables also exist. An extension record supplies extra information about a core record. The number of records in each extension data table is illustrated below.
This IPT archives the data and thus serves as the data repository. The data and resource metadata are available for download in the downloads section. The versions table lists other versions of the resource that have been made publicly available and allows tracking changes made to the resource over time.

Taxonomic Coverage
The charge of this program is to create a DNA barcode reference sequence for every species in the intertidal zone of the State of California, United States of America. Pragmatically, organisms of meiofauna size (approximately 50 micrometers) and larger are included. Emphasis is on algae and invertebrates, since vertebrates are generally better covered by other survey programs.

Project Data
The California Intertidal Biodiversity DNA Barcode Library Project will develop a standardized, openly accessible genetic reference database for organisms inhabiting the intertidal zone along California’s coastline. By coupling traditional morphological taxonomy with DNA sequencing, we will be able to improve our understanding of species biodiversity and lay the foundation for future long term monitoring.
