Description

This is a collection of fossil specimens from the late Eocene to early Oligocene collected in the Fayyūm Depression, Egypt and fossil specimens from the early Miocene collected in Wādī al Maghārah, Egypt and housed at the DLCMNH at Duke University, North Carolina, USA. This collection was made by researchers in collaboration with the Egyptian Geological Museum and includes a diverse array of vertebrates including primates, non-primate mammals, reptiles, birds, and fish. The DLCMNH houses these delicate specimens in climate-controlled conditions to preserve them from fluctuations in temperature and humidity. Note that specimens collected under collaborative agreements between Egypt and Duke are accessioned at both the DLCMNH and the Cairo Geological Museum in Egypt. This data collection currently includes only material accessioned at the DLCMNH

Data Records

The data in this occurrence resource has been published as a Darwin Core Archive (DwC-A), which is a standardized format for sharing biodiversity data as a set of one or more data tables. The core data table contains 449 records.

1 extension data tables also exist. An extension record supplies extra information about a core record. The number of records in each extension data table is illustrated below.

This IPT archives the data and thus serves as the data repository. The data and resource metadata are available for download in the downloads section. The versions table lists other versions of the resource that have been made publicly available and allows tracking changes made to the resource over time.

Maintenance Description The first upload contains a subset of specimens from the Fayyūm and Wādī al Maghārah at the DLCMNH. The first upload includes all primate specimens that have associated media available for download on MorphoSource. This is just a small part of this expansive collection, and we plan to add additional taxa – including primate specimens that lack MorphoSource media and non-primate material – in the future.
