Description
This collection is composed primarily of shallow marine invertebrate fossils collected from Ohio and adjacent states. A key strength is the Jack Kallmeyer collection, which includes over 8000 specimens from the Late Ordovician of the greater Cincinnati region.
Data Records
The data in this occurrence resource has been published as a Darwin Core Archive (DwC-A), which is a standardized format for sharing biodiversity data as a set of one or more data tables. The core data table contains 2,412 records.
This IPT archives the data and thus serves as the data repository. The data and resource metadata are available for download in the downloads section. The versions table lists other versions of the resource that have been made publicly available and allows tracking changes made to the resource over time.
Versions
The table below shows only published versions of the resource that are publicly accessible.

Sampling Methods
Field collections made by avocational paleontologists over 30 field seasons. Specimens were collected from surface float, in situ methods, and sieving of collected mud.
Study Extent | Ohio, Indiana, and Kentucky, USA within the Ordovician outcrop belt |

Quality Control | Specimens were identified to species and georeferenced by Ohio University personnel based on detailed field notes by the avocational collector. |
Method step description:
- Specimens were identified to species using field guides (Fossils of Ohio, Cincinnati Fossils) and primary literature by undergraduate students. Identifications were verified by MS student Hannah Brame. Georeferencing followed iDigBio best practices by Brame and undergraduate students. Data were entered into a Specify Database for management by MS students Brame, Jennifer Bauer, and Adriane Lam with assistance of undergraduate employees.
