Description

The collection of amphibians and reptiles was salvaged, organized, and cataloged by Dr. John D. Lynch prior to being moved into UNSM in the early 1970s. Early collections include those of Lawrence Bruner from Nebraska in the 1880s and Argentina in the 1890s. G.E Hudson collected extensively in the 1930s and produced "The Amphibians and Reptiles of Nebraska" (1942). Lynch and others continued collecting and depositing regional specimens to the collections. Royce Ballinger, Lynch, and Geoffrey Smith produced "Amphibians and Reptiles of Nebraska" (2010). Also, distributions in Dan Fogell’s 2010 "A Field Guide to the Amphibians and Reptiles of Nebraska" are based largely on these collections. In 1999 the amphibian and reptile collections of the University of South Dakota were transferred to and incorporated into the UNSM collections. The collection today totals over 18,900 specimens, primarily from Nebraska and South Dakota.

Data Records

The data in this occurrence resource has been published as a Darwin Core Archive (DwC-A), which is a standardized format for sharing biodiversity data as a set of one or more data tables. The core data table contains 18,943 records.

This IPT archives the data and thus serves as the data repository. The data and resource metadata are available for download in the downloads section. The versions table lists other versions of the resource that have been made publicly available and allows tracking changes made to the resource over time.
